Managing Mapping Override
A user may wish to review the AI standardization or override certain mapping to align better with the way the company understands its chart of accounts.
The Manage Mapping page empowers users to review, override, and standardize their company’s chart of accounts. While Levelup uses AI to suggest mappings to a standardized financial structure, this page gives users full control to adjust or correct these mappings.
Purpose
- Ensure every account aligns with Levelup’s universal categories
- Resolve AI misclassifications or unclear account names
- Provide accurate categorization for financial reporting, KPIs, and benchmarking
Page Layout
The interface is grouped by top-level categories based on standard financial classifications:
- Asset
- Liability
- Equity
- Income
- Expense
- Direct Costs
- Other Income
- Other Expense
Each group expands to show:
- Subcategories (e.g., Current Assets, Long-Term Liabilities)
- Your company’s raw accounts, detected and parsed from your accounting system
- Current mapping target (the normalized account classification)
Mapping Details
Each row displays:
- Account Name: From your accounting software (e.g., QBO, Xero)
- Current Mapping: The AI-suggested or manually applied standardized category
- Status Tag: How the account was mapped (user vs AI vs rule)
- Edit Icon (✏️): Opens manual override modal
- Comment/Note: Optional explanation or justification for changes
Some rows may be highlighted to signal unusual classifications or confidence issues.
Overriding the Mapping
Click the ✏️ edit icon next to any account to:
- View the current AI-assigned mapping
- Select a new category from the standardized hierarchy
- Optionally add a note explaining your override (coming soon)
- Save changes to lock the manual mapping
Overrides persist across syncs and will not be overwritten by future AI updates unless explicitly reverted.
Best Practices
- Use consistent logic for similar account types (e.g., classify all payroll-related items under "Personnel")
- Use Level 1–5 normalization views in reports to test how mappings affect financial outputs
Why Manual Mapping Matters
- AI can't always decipher custom naming conventions
- Precise mappings improve:
- KPI accuracy
- Benchmark comparisons
- Dashboards and rollups across entities
Your mappings directly power standardization and impact how data is visualized across the entire platform.
